Every day there’s another AI update, a new tool, or an article I’m told I must read. It’s exciting, but I’m a working dad, and I simply don’t have the time to learn everything.
So I had to decide what I actually want from learning AI. My answer is simple: I want to use it to build a real business, not just to keep up with the news.
How it started with my wife
How I got there started with my wife. 😅
For quite a while she had been telling me I was getting too fat, and that if I didn’t do something about it, I would die young. After enough reminders, I gave in and joined her favourite class, yoga. I was 49.
To my surprise, I enjoyed it. I realised I needed to work on my flexibility and strength, and do something about my stress, and I’ve kept going since.
Learning AI by using it on a real business
Around the same time, I was spending a lot of hours learning AI. For years I trained sellers on Lazada and other marketplaces, but I stopped in 2025 because rising commissions, ad costs and competition were making it very hard for new sellers to succeed. I wanted to find out whether AI could help a small brand starting today find another way to grow. Watching videos and testing prompts only teaches you so much. At some point you have to try it on a real business.
So I decided to combine AI, yoga and e-commerce and see where it goes. That decision also helps me choose what to learn: I’ll focus on AI I can actually apply to my new yoga business.
Where Lexis Yoga stands today
Earlier this year we completed the trademark registration for a new brand, Lexis Yoga. We developed our first yoga products and opened branded stores on Shopee and Lazada. Customers have given good feedback on quality, and our team ships orders within a day.
That gives me a starting point I can measure. As we bring in AI, I’ll be tracking sales, website visitors, how much content we produce and how many hours it saves us, so I can learn what seems to make a difference. The products and operations still come first.
With help from my AI “partners” ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, I’ve started working on the website, content and social media, and I’m looking at other areas where AI could help, such as answering customer questions on WhatsApp.
I’m optimistic, but I honestly don’t know whether it will work. As they say, never try, never know.
Looking for people to learn with
I also know I can’t do this alone. I’d like to connect with people who are applying AI in their own businesses so we can learn from each other. I also welcome guidance from solution providers, government agencies and business communities. My new website, kkecommerce.com, which I built with help from Claude and ChatGPT (I wrote about it in Building a Website with AI), is my invitation to connect.
From here I’ll keep experimenting and focus on improving Lexis Yoga’s results. I’ll share what I try, what works, what doesn’t and what I change in Insights, with updates on the Projects page. I plan to post progress updates every weekend, and I hope other Malaysian entrepreneurs and SME owners find something useful in them.
Even if the business doesn’t turn out exactly as I hope, I’m fairly sure of two things. I should end up healthier, and if my wife is happier, this husband will probably be happier too. 😂
